“Red Cake – not the cooking show” returns to SABC2 on the 15th of November with brand new episodes!

But why is it called Red Cake?

As the name suggests‚ the show has very little to do with cooking and something to do with the delicious mix of Red Cake which the dessert is famous for. 

Before township neighbourhoods were affectionately referred to as “e-Kasi”, you would have to travel to “ama-Lokshin” to find this delectable treat. In the spaza one could treat oneself to this delicious cake,  nestled between “ama-Gwenya” and “i-Kota” would be the decadent RED CAKE. Made from all the baker’s off-cuts that were just too good to throw away, the red cake was a mixture of all the best cakes rolled up into a single serving of chocolate, vanilla, carrot, red-velvet and anything else that was on offer. Finished off with an eye-catching red food dye, those in the know can attest to the red cake’s irresistible flavours. 

And that is exactly what Red Cake, not the cooking show is all about, it is a delectable entertainment confection of fun and laughter for the whole family.
